§ 303. Board of Trustees; general authority

  • (a) The Board of Trustees shall have the general care and management of the prudential
    interests and affairs of the Village; shall assess all taxes and make out a rate bill
    accordingly; shall direct the expenditure of all monies belonging to the Village,
    and draw orders upon the Treasurer and generally perform all the duties legally enjoined
    upon them by the Village, and shall submit their accounts and vouchers to the auditors
    at least three days before the annual meeting of each year. (b) The Board shall have power to abate taxes laid or assessed by virtue of this chapter,
    and also all highway taxes assessed against taxpayers of the Village, and to remit
    fines imposed for the violation of the bylaws or regulations of the Village. The power
    of the Board to abate taxes shall be subject to the same limitations and may be exercised
    for the causes provided in general Vermont law. (c) The Board may create commissions and committees not now existing and appoint the members
    thereof. It may inquire into the conduct of any officer, commission, or department
    and investigate any and all municipal affairs. (d) The Board may fill any vacancy in any elective Village office, and a person so appointed
    shall serve until a successor is elected, but the Village may, at any time, at a meeting
    duly called for that purpose, fill such vacancy for the unexpired term. (Amended 2015, No. M-13 (Adj. Sess.), § 2, eff. Feb. 24, 2016.)
