§ 49-11-401. Legislative intent.

It is declared to be the intent of the general assembly to establish a statewide system of state colleges of applied technology to meet more adequately the occupational and technical training needs of citizens and residents of this state, including employees and future employees of existing and prospective industries and businesses in this state. The individual colleges of applied technology established by this part shall be known as “Tennessee College of Applied Technology - ” followed by the name of the city, town or place in which or near which the college is located. Effective July 1, 1983, authority for the system created under this part was transferred from the state board of education and the division of vocational-technical education of the department of education to the board of regents. Selected transitional provisions were contained in the transfer statute, Acts 1983, ch. 181. Acts 1994, ch. 685, § 4 provided that Acts 1994, ch. 685 does not affect the organization, naming or administration of the vocational and technical programs governed by the state board of education, the state board for vocational education or local education agencies under parts 1-3 of this chapter, except for the provisions of subsection (b) regarding the authority of the state board of regents.
