§ 115C-166. Eye protection devices required in certain courses.
The governing board or authority of any public or private school or educational institution within the State, wherein shops or laboratories are conducted providing instructional or experimental programs, shall provide for and require that every student and teacher wear industrial-quality eye protective devices at all times while participating in a program that involves any of the following: Hot solids, liquids or molten metals. Milling, sawing, turning, shaping, cutting, or stamping of any solid materials. Heat treatment, tempering, or kiln firing of any metal or other materials. Gas or electric arc welding. Repair or servicing of any vehicle. Caustic or explosive chemicals or materials. These industrial-quality eye protective devices shall be furnished free of charge to the student and teacher. Editor's Note. - Session Laws 2017-57, s. 7.23H(k), made the amendment to this section by Session Laws 2017-57, s. 7.23H(e), applicable beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Session Laws 2017-57, s. 1.1, provides: "This act shall be known as the 'Current Operations Appropriations Act of 2017.'" Session Laws 2017-57, s. 39.6, is a severability clause. Effect of Amendments. - Session Laws 2017-57, s. 7.23H(e), effective July 1, 2017, added "shall provide for and require that every student and teacher wear industrial-quality eye protective devices at all times while participating in a program that involves any of the following" at the end of the introductory paragraph, deleted "shall provide for and require that every student and teacher wear industrial-quality eye protective devices at all times while participating in any such program" in the undesignated paragraph at the end, and made stylistic changes.
