§ 15A-241. Definition of search warrant.
A search warrant is a court order and process directing a law-enforcement officer to search designated premises, vehicles, or persons for the purpose of seizing designated items and accounting for any items so obtained to the court which issued the warrant. History (1868-9, c. 178, subch. 3, s. 38; Code, s. 1171; Rev., s. 3163; C.S., s. 4529; 1941, c. 53; 1949, c. 1179; 1955, c. 7; 1965, c. 377; 1969, c. 869, s. 8; 1973, c. 1286, s. 1.) Editor's Note. - Session Laws 2020-3, s. 4.4, provides: "(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any signature required for the issuance of a search warrant pursuant to Article 11 of Chapter 15A of the General Statutes, or on any judicial order issued following a court hearing conducted by remote audio or visual transmission in a civil or criminal case, may be signed by use of an electronic signature. "(b) This section is effective when it becomes law [May 4, 2020] and shall expire on August 1, 2020." Session Laws 2020-3, s. 5, is a severability clause.
