§ 4:20-28.

An owner or possessor of land who is damaged for want of a lawful and sufficient fence

and who shall hurt or cause any horses, cattle or sheep to be hurt, wounded, lamed,

killed or destroyed, shall be liable to pay full damages to the owner of such animals,

to be recovered, with costs, in an action at law in any court of competent jurisdiction.
