§ 7-3-1228. Action On Initiative Petition
Action on initiative petition. (1) If an initiative petition or amended petition is found sufficient by the clerk, the clerk shall certify it and shall submit the ordinance set forth in the petition to the commission at its next meeting, and the commission shall read and refer it to an appropriate committee, which may be a committee of the whole. (2) Provision must be made for public hearings upon the proposed ordinance before the committee to which it is referred. After the hearings, the committee shall report the ordinance to the commission, with its recommendations, not later than 60 days after the date on which the ordinance was submitted to the commission by the clerk. (3) Upon receiving the ordinance from the committee, the commission shall consider it and shall take final action on the ordinance within 30 days from the date of the committee report.
