§ 7-3-1101. City-County Consolidation Authorized

City-county consolidation authorized. (1) A county and a city or town within the county may unite to form a single unit of local government under the provisions of this part. (2) An alternative form of government, including a charter form, for a consolidated unit of government may be submitted to the voters only by those study commissions that have cooperated in the formulation of the plan. A majority vote by each of the affected study commissions is required for the submission of an alternative form of government for a consolidated unit of local government. The affected study commissions submitting a consolidated form shall issue a single joint report and proposal. (3) An alternative form of government for a consolidated unit of local government does not need to include more than one municipality. A municipality may not be included unless the local government study commission of that municipality participates in the cooperative study and unless its study commission by a majority vote approves the proposed alternative plan for the consolidated government. (4) This part shall not apply to excluded municipalities, school districts, conservancy districts, drainage districts, irrigation districts, soil and water conservation districts, or livestock districts.
