§ 47-5-2. Corrections Investigative Taskforce created.
There is hereby created the Corrections Investigative Taskforce which shall consist of the following members: the Attorney General; State Auditor; the Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Narcotics, or his designee; the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Public Safety, or his designee; the Chairman of the Senate Corrections Committee and the Chairman of the House Penitentiary Committee. The taskforce shall: Conduct or cause to be conducted periodic investigation of the Department of Corrections; Study and make recommendations on correctional policies, including, but not limited to: Drug trafficking; Inmate gang activity; Internal accounting and control procedures; and Correction services and programs. Request assistance from the Department of Audit, Office of the Attorney General, Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Narcotics and any other state agency. Any state agency shall comply with a request for assistance to the fullest extent possible. The taskforce shall submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature no later than January 15 of each year.
