§ 150-70.
Abandoning community building project; petition; referendum; transfer of moneys. (a) Upon the petition of not fewer than 50 owners or life tenants of real estate of any township that has adopted the provisions of this Article and provided a fund for community building purposes, the question of abandoning the project to purchase, erect, equip, remodel, or renovate a community building and of devoting the fund to some other purpose, shall be submitted to the legal voters of the township at an election. The board shall certify the question to the proper election officials, who shall submit the proposition at an election in accordance with the general election law. The fund may be transferred to any other township fund or to the various common school districts located in the township ratably in the proportion that the portion of the taxable value of the property of the school districts located in the township bears to the taxable value of all the property in the township. The vote at the referendum shall be by a separate ballot, and the proposition shall be in substantially the following form: Shall the community building project be abandoned and the moneys for that purpose be transferred to (name of authorities or fund to which the moneys are proposed to be transferred)? The votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or "No". (b) If a majority of the votes cast upon the proposition at the referendum are in favor of the proposition, the board of managers shall immediately settle all outstanding obligations against the community building and pay over any moneys remaining in their custody to the proper authorities in accordance with the petition and election.
