§ 13-8-102. Definitions.
As used in this subchapter: “Agency” means the Arkansas Arts Council established in this subchapter. The agency shall include the advisory council and the position of executive director as established in this subchapter; “Arts” includes, but is not limited to: Instrumental and vocal music; Dance; Drama; Painting; Sculpture; Creative writing; Architectural and allied fields; Graphics; Folk art; Porcelain art; China painting; Craft art; Industrial design; Costume and fashion design; Motion pictures; Television; Radio; Tape and sound recordings; and The arts related to the presentation, performance, execution, and exhibition of such major art forms; “Group” includes any state or other public agency and any nonprofit society, institution, organization, association, museum, or establishment in Arkansas, whether or not incorporated; “Office” means the Arkansas Arts Council established in this subchapter. The office shall include the advisory council and the position of executive director as established in this subchapter; “Production” means: A play, with or without music; A ballet; A dance or choral performance; A concert; A recital; An opera; An exhibition; A reading; A motion picture; Television; Radio; A tape or sound recording; and Any other activity involving the execution or rendition of the arts and meeting any standards approved by the agency; and “Project” means: A program organized to carry out the purposes of this subchapter, including a program: To foster artistic creativity; To commission works of art; To create opportunities for individuals to develop artistic talents when carried on as a part of a program otherwise included in this definition; and To develop and enhance public knowledge and understanding of the arts and humanities; and “Project” also includes, when appropriate: The rental, purchase, renovation, or construction of a facility; The purchase or rental of land; and The acquisition of equipment, supplies, materials, and other personal property.
