§ 45-53-230. Salary; Expense Allowance.
(a)(1) Any sheriff taking office after September 1, 2011, shall receive an annual salary of sixty-five thousand dollars ($65,000) per annum, payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county.
(2) Any sheriff taking office after September 1, 2011, shall receive an expense allowance up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) as determined by the Perry County Commission.
(3) The salary and expense allowance provided in this subsection shall be in lieu of any other salary or expense allowance for the sheriff.
(b)(1) Any sheriff serving for 30 or more years on September 1, 2011, shall receive an expense allowance so that the expense allowance and annual salary of the sheriff shall equal seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) per annum, payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county.
(2) Effective upon the adoption of a constitutional amendment relating to the sheriff’s compensation in Perry County, any sheriff serving for 30 or more years on that date shall receive an annual salary of seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) per annum, payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county, and subdivision (1) shall terminate.
(3) Subdivision (1) and (2), if not terminated as provided above, shall terminate when any new sheriff takes office after September 1, 2011.
